Expert review of Playa Jardín
The black sand garden beach designed by César Manrique.
Located at the westerley edge of the resort and stretching from Castillo San Felipe all the way to Punta Brava, this black sand beach is backed by tropical and cactus gardens and has Mount Teide dominating the horizon.
The main Puerto beach, Playa Jardín is always busy with locals and visitors with lots going on so it makes for great people watching. I've seen TV dramas filmed there, a team of Polish bodybuilders being interviewed and swimwear fashion shoots to name but a few of the distractions to getting a tan.
Expert tips:
The Atlantic rollers are fierce here and turn paddling into an extreme sport. It's great fun for confident swimmers.
The further you walk towards Punta Brava, the less crowded it becomes.
Swimmers should head to the fabulous Lago Martiánez swimming pool complex in the town centre.
