This is one of my favourite places to swim and sunbathe, on a tiny island, at the entrance into Vela Luka bay, off the east coast of Korčula. Taxi-boats drop visitors in Perna bay, where there’s a summer eatery serving local seafood and barbecued meat, and from here you follow footpaths round the coast to a handful of rocky coves with smooth white pebble beaches. There’s a small sand beach called Batalo in a shallow bay, ideal for kids, plus an expanse of smooth flat rocks known as Bili Bok, perfect for sprawling in the sun. And for nudists there’s an FKK beach (from the German Freikörperkultur, meaning Free Body Culture) on the west coast. Through summer regular taxi-boats depart from the harbour in Vela Luka, close to Hotel Korkyra.
