Expert review of Konoba Zure

An informal agritourism centre in Lumbarda, serving authentic Dalmatian cuisine.

The seaside village of Lumbarda is known for its fertile reddish soil producing Grk white wine, and its small sandy beaches. If you come this way, be sure to call in for dinner at Zure. Here the Batistić family run a small agrotourism centre, growing their own vegetables, making wine and olive oil, smoking their own hams, and also fishing. Everything they serve is their own produce, so it will certainly be a meal to remember. What’s more, if you call in advance, you can join them fishing in the summer, or help with the wine harvest and wine making in September.

Food and drink: 

The menu changes constantly depending on the time of year, but you can expect treats such as octopus salad with capers, pršut (prosciutto) and sheep’s cheese in olive oil, pasta or risotto made from shellfish and barbecued fresh fish. If you are vegetarian, ask them to make something from their home-grown organic vegetables - tomatoes, courgettes, aubergines and potatoes. They use their own olive oil, and serve their own wines, white Grk and red Plavac Mali.

Recommended dishes: 

Everything here is bound to be good – if they’re on offer, I’d go for either the lobster or the roast lamb and potatoes.

Ambience: 

A homely feeling prevails as this is in fact the Batistić family house - out front there’s a vine-covered terrace, surrounded by orange and lemon trees, where guests eat at wooden tables and benches. Fresh vegetables are collected from the garden, and there’s an adjoining winery.

Service: 

There are warm and welcoming hosts, plus knowledgeable and attentive waiters.

Location: 

It's 7 km from Korčula Town, on a hillside a short distance southwest of the coastal village of Lumbarda, close to Hotel Lumbarda.

Price advice: 

Expect to pay around 350-400 kuna for a generous meal for two with house wine, or a bit more if you choose lobster.
