Flying to Lanzarote
Flights arrive at Arrecife airport, on the west coast of the island, which is located 6km (4 miles) from the capital of Arrecife and 10km (6 miles) from the main resort of Puerto Del Carmen.
There are two terminals at the airport (code ACE) - one for domestic flights and the other for international flights. Arrecife is is a very busy airport, particularly considering the size of the island, with a large number of charter and scheduled flights arriving daily, all year round.
The modern airport has a good standard of facilities, with disabled access, including ramps, accessible toilets and dedicated parking. There are tourist information centres in both terminals, several ATMs and a number of food and retail outlets. Note that there are no left luggage facilities in either terminal.
Getting to your resort
Holidaymakers on a package deal will have free transport to take them to their resort. Note that there are also no shuttle buses between the airport and the major resorts. The buses are also not convenient as they essentially run between the airport and the capital, Arrecife (departing every half an hour to an hour during the day and costing around 1 euro; full details www.arrecifebus.es) and take a long time to actually get to any of the resorts.
If you are driving (all the major international car hire companies can be found at the airport, along with some reliable local ones - see Lanzarote car hire for details), the main resorts and towns are clearly signposted from the airport.
Otherwise, it is advisable to book a taxi in advance to avoid a long wait on arrival, as demand always seems to outstrip supply. There is only one taxi rank – outside the arrivals hall of Terminal 1. Choose from a number of online companies, or ask your accommodation provider to recommend one. Private transfers, minibuses and shared cars are all available.
